Julemøde i DSTS tirsdag d. 8/12 2015 kl. 17:15

Beer test statistics.

Abstract:

Based on a little practical beer testing with the help of the meeting participants I will discuss some of the procedures and models commonly used for such tests. This will include what by some are called Thurstonian models for perceptual data and how these can resolve the so-called Gridgeman's paradox. I will analyze the data we get by one of the sensometrics R-packages, sensR, developed here with us at DTU Compute. I will then introduce some of the other possibilities in three other R-packages developed with us: ordinal, lmerTest and SensMixed. The former two are generic packages focusing on mixed models. The latter one is a dedicated sensometrics package with, among other things, an implementation of recent methods developed for linear mixed models of multi-attribute sensory data. The generic idea of summarizing multi-attribute mixed model results by bar-plotting certain relative effect sizes linking directly to a Thurstonian interpretation of the effects has e.g. been implemented. I will illustrate this and discuss the approach.
