Two PhD stipends in AI are available at the Center for Clinical Data Science (CLINDA)
Two PhD stipends in AI within health care are available at the Center for Clinical Data Science (CLINDA), Aalborg University from 15 August 2026 or soon hereafter. Deadline for application is 13 April 2026.
Stipend 1: AI-Based Genetic Risk Prediction
This position focuses on developing cutting-edge AI methods for genetic risk prediction across multiple cancer types, with a strong focus on model performance and explainability. The project will involve designing a transformer-based foundation model for genetic data, with an integrated prediction layer for colorectal cancer screening. Subsequently, the framework will be extended to multi-task learning for multi-cancer risk prediction. To develop these models, you will have access to unique biobank data containing genetic information linked to Danish registry data for approximately 250,000 individuals. You will also work on incorporating explainability features identified by the AI-integrated PhD to support risk-based cancer screening and ensure clinical relevance and usability.

Stipend 2: Implementation of AI for Clinical Impact in General Practice
You will implement and benchmark state-of-art methods for structuring health data using knowledge graphs and will develop solutions for querying such data leveraging generative AI technologies, aiming at generating context-specific summaries that reflect the patient’s trajectory and the needs for the upcoming consultation in general practice. The focus will be on designing clinically grounded solutions, with explainability and sourcing capabilities. Finally, you will evaluate usability, clinical relevance, and workflow impact in collaboration with general practitioners, assessing efficiency gains, trustworthiness, and effects on clinical decision making.
